The 2027 Audi SQ9 does something no Audi has done before. It drops the outgoing RS Q8's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 into a three-row family SUV, wears the first S badge Audi has ever put on its biggest car, and undercuts the Mercedes-AMG GLS 63 by roughly $33,000 while claiming to reach 60 mph quicker. This is a first look at Audi's new performance flagship: 591 horsepower, a claimed 3.8-second 0-60 (Audi's figure, not yet independently tested), rear-biased quattro with a locking rear differential, standard air suspension and rear-wheel steering, 16.5-inch front rotors on six-piston calipers, and up to 23-inch wheels. Inside is the robbery payoff the pictures rarely show: a matte-finished cabin, the three-screen Digital Stage, a 22-speaker, 1,360-watt Bang & Olufsen system with headrest speakers and seat haptics, dual cooled wireless charging and a switchable glass roof. But it is a warm S, not a full RS halo. 591 hp actually sits below the AMG GLS 63 (603), the Range Rover Sport SV (626) and the Cadillac Escalade-V (682), and the rumored 700-plus-horsepower hybrid never came.
