While cruising over Oregon, an off-duty Alaska Airlines pilot who was occupying the cockpit jumpseat attempted to activate the emergency fire-suppression handles ahl playoffs for the aircrafts engines, an action that would have shut down both engines. The operating flight crew physically intervened and restrained him. The aircraft made an emergency diversion to Portland International Airport, Oregon, where it landed safely. The individual was removed from the aircraft and taken into custody by law enforcement.
