Celebrated contemporary artist Betye Saar first came to the Gardner as a visitor in 1992 when she received an honorary doctorate degree from Massachusetts College of the Arts. In 1994, she was invited to participate in the "Eye of the Beholder" lecture series held in the Tapestry Room of the historic Palace.
